Moncton Miracles Win a Fourth Straight Game Against the Halifax Rainmen

The Moncton Miracles, presented by Rogers, beat the Halifax Rainmen with a final score of 107-98. The Miracles now sit with a 15-15 record.

The first quarter started with the both teams showing up to play and Moncton leading for majority of the quater. Rainmen’s Quinnel Brown would hit a 3 with 4:49 minutes left to play to take a 15-16, which his team would continue to build on. The first quarter would end with Halifax leading 18-26.

The Miracles would bring the game to within 6-points early in the second quarter before the Rainmen would go on a 14-6 run to secure themselves with a 26-40 lead. Halifax would shoot the lights out in the first half shooting 62.50% (10-16) from the 3-point line while Moncton was struggling from behind the arc shooting 14.29% (1-7).  With the Miracles being unable to stop their opponents shooters they would end the first half trailing 44-61.

Miracles would start the third quarter on a 13-2 run to make it a game for the first time since the first 12 minutes, 58-63. With 5:11 minutes left to play in the third quarter Devin Sweetney would hit a big 3 for Moncton to give his team their first lead since the first quarter, 70-68. The Miracles would outscore their opponents 34-15 in the third quarter to give them a 78-76 going into the final 12 minutes of play.

Moncton would lead for the most of the fourth quarter until Halifax ‘s Melvin Goins tied the game up with 2:10 left to play at 98-98. The Miracles would go on a 9-0 run giving them the win and a 4 game winning streak. This is the team’s longest win streak in the 2012-13 season.

Darrell Wonge led the way for the Miracles with 23 points and 7 rebounds. Herman Favors followed with 18 points and Isaac Butts with 18 points and 14 rebounds.

Hilary Haley was the force for the Rainmen with 18 points. Cedric Moodie was next with 17 points and Quinell Brown with 14 points and 9 rebounds.

Upcoming Community Events:

On the morning of January 21st the players will be visiting Havelock School to talk about their School Pride Program.  They will also be visiting Shediac Cape School as well as announcing a new program with Tech South East.

The Miracles play their next game on the road against the Saint John Mill Rats on Thursday, January 24th. Tip-off is 7pm at the Harbour Station. The next home game is Friday, January 25th against the London Lightning.  Tip-off is 7pm at the Moncton Coliseum.
