Toronto ArgonautsA busy off-season for the Toronto Argonauts continues as the Boatmen kicked off 2012 by locking up two veterans to contract extensions.  The Double Blue are pleased to announce that versatile non-import RB/SB Andre Durie has extended through the 2014 season while import LB Jordan Younger has signed through 2013.

A dual threat at both the receiver and running back positions, Andre Durie has become one of the most elusive and exciting Canadian talents in the CFL.  Coming off his fifth season since joining the Argos in 2007 as a free agent, the GTA native posted career numbers as he recorded 54 receptions for 665 yards and four touchdowns.  The 2011 Jake Gaudaur Veterans’ Award recipient also added 106 yards on the ground on 18 carries. A speedster on returns, Durie pitched in with 471 combined kick return yards in 2011.  Prior to joining the Argos in 2007, Durie was a standout at York University where he set an OUA record for single game rushing yards with 349 and set new benchmarks at York for single season rushing yards (1,367), scoring (96 points) and career rushing touchdowns (23).

Durie remarked, “It is a true honour to represent the Toronto Argonauts for another term. In 2007, they gave me my first opportunity at a chance to play football again when no other teams would and I knew that I was forever indebted and would be loyal to the organization, the community and the fans who have supported me throughout my football career.  Re-signing helps me continue my childhood dream. This year, we host the 100th Grey Cup and there would be no better way to give back to the fans than to be in the game.”

A staple in the Argos defence for all but one year since 2004, Younger is coming off another solid year as an anchor in the Argos linebacking corps.  The seventh-year Argo recorded 42 defensive tackles, one quarterback sack and one fumble recovery last season and also hit a career milestone by playing in his 100th game as a member of the Double Blue.  Younger originally joined the Argos in 2004, taking the starting cornerback spot and helping lead the club to a Grey Cup championship.  In 2010, the three-time East All-Star made the switch from the secondary over to his current position at SAM linebacker.

Commented Younger, “I wear the Double Blue of the Toronto Argonauts with a great sense of pride. There have been so many influential people that I have met during my time with the club and they have affected my life in a profound way.  From the team, to the front office, to the fan club, there are special people in and around this organization.  Professionally, I am honoured to be considered a part of what this coaching staff believes to be a championship-calibre team. Personally, it means the world to me to have the chance to compete for a Grey Cup in the city I have made my home.”
