POSTGAME QUOTES

MIKE BABCOCK POSTGAME: OCTOBER 29, 2016

On the team’s play tonight:

I thought we did lots of good things. I thought both goaltenders were good. I don’t like the 4-on-3 goal; I think that’s on the coaches. Our plan wasn’t good enough, we shouldn’t let [Weber] hammer away there. We had good chances, Carey [Price] made some good saves and I thought our goalie made some good saves. It was a good hockey game. We had lots of opportunity for sure.

On the play of Carey Price:

Well, we had a ton of rubber at their net obviously and he played real well. He’s supposed to play real well. Coming in here you know he’s going to play well, you have to find a way to get by him. I thought we had some good chances and we didn’t capitalize on them. We’ve got to find a way to score when we’re playing Montreal.

On the Kadri-Matthews-Nylander power play unit:

I thought Willy [Nylander] was outstanding tonight. When Willy is competitive and wants the puck like he did tonight, he’s hard to handle. I thought he was the best of our young guys tonight. He did a real good job tonight for us so good on him. It’s always nice to have the power play be effective. I thought our first power play was really good – we didn’t score on it – but it was really good. Our second one wasn’t very good, but our first and our last one was good.

FREDERIK ANDERSEN POSTGAME: OCTOBER 29, 2016

On tonight’s game:

It was a pretty good game for both teams. I think both had some good looks and it came down to one goal. I thought we played well. It’s too bad we didn’t get any points tonight but definitely a lot of good things to keep building on.

On the game-winning goal:

He picked a pretty good spot. I think I came pretty far out, maybe didn’t get my feet as set as I wanted to but he placed it pretty well, right over the pad. He shoots it well.

On the team putting itself in a position to win:

Just as a team I think we did well today, we have to keep building on our last game. Sometimes you’re going to run into another team that’s playing well. Unfortunately, only one team can win the game and it was two good teams playing tonight.

NAZEM KADRI POSTGAME: OCTOBER 29, 2016

On facing Carey Price:

It was difficult. He’s one of the best goaltenders in the game so that’s what was expected. I loved our effort, I loved our enthusiasm but, at the end of the day, he stole one from us.

On his goal:

Not too many times you’re going to beat a goalie clean from the outside and there’s not too many players that can do that. You’ve got to throw things at the net and hopefully get a couple of bounces. Willy did a great job finding me. We worked the puck around and the middle was open. I had my stick on the ice and was able to beat him far side.

On if he has changed his approach on the power play to score more:

No, just understanding the concept and what I have to do. Obviously the man in the middle is different for me. I’m usually on the outside playing with the puck a little more. You’ve still got to be smart and know your surroundings. At the end of the day, nine times out of 10, that’s where the goals are going to be coming from is off shots and off rebounds and things like that. I’m just trying to do the best I can to give guys openings.

MORGAN RIELLY POSTGAME: OCTOBER 29, 2016

On the effort in Montreal:

I think we’re a little bit happy with the way we played for the most part. It’s always tough when you lose and you don’t want to make excuses, but I think we battled hard. We came out and we’re happy we had 20 guys going, nobody was a passenger. I think we’re happy with that. We certainly wanted to get the win. We played good enough to be right there at the end. Moving forward we want to continue to get better and win these kinds of hockey games.

On the goaltenders:

They were both outstanding. Carey Price in my opinion is one of, if not the best, goalie in the League. [Frederik Andersen] is right behind him. He played outstanding, he plays the puck extremely well, he has lots of confidence back there. His defence, it’s our job to do a better job to give him support. He was outstanding, he made huge saves for us. The way he played he deserved a better outcome. That’s sports. Moving forward we have a chance to win tomorrow night so that’s a good thing.

On the defensive zone play:

We’re happy with it. We’re happy with how we broke out, we didn’t spend too much time in the D-zone. If you’re not playing defence it’s usually a good thing. Something to build on like I said. Moving forward there’s lots of room to get better. You’ve got to take the positives and move on.
