President of Commonwealth Games Canada, Mr. Richard Powers said,” We are hoping to win over a 100 medals at these games.

Beach volleyball, para-triathlon and women’s rugby sevens make their Commonwealth Games debut and should be a strong showing for Canada.

The goal is to once again finish in the top three stated, “Powers.”

“It’s shaping up to be very popular games for the fans and visiting tourists with 12 action-packed days of free culture to celebrate the Gold Coast Games with music, theatre, circus, dance, visual arts and film from the Gold Coast, Australia and across the globe”, said, Powers.

Gold Coast is located southeast of Brisbane on Australia’s east coast. It is a beautiful location with golden sand and warm sunny days – hard to beat, especially after a Toronto winter.

The official motto for the 2018 Commonwealth Games is “Share the Dream”. It was chosen to highlight the dreams and experiences athletes, support staff and volunteers will share at the Games with the host country Australia and the other 69 Commonwealth nations.

Borobi was named as the mascot of the 2018 Commonwealth Games. Borobi is a blue koala, with indigenous markings on its body. The term “borobi” is an Aboriginal term for koala.

The Games, which run April 4-15, will draw more than 6,500 athletes and officials from 70 countries and territories. Competition will cover 18 sports and seven para-sports. Canada is entered in every sport except netball, which is not played in this country.
