We are salavating with excitement for Round 5 of the 2012 MotoGP championship to get underway at the Circuit de Catalunya in Spain.  Catalunya is famous for the epic battle between Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo in 2009.  We are hoping for another close race for the podium this year.

Catalunya is one of Casey Stoner’s favorite tracks meaning he will pull the pin for this round of the championship.  Stoner even made it clear on Twitter that even though he is retiring doesn’t mean he doesn’t like racing and riding these motorcycles.  Look out for the defending champ to make a run for it.

Jorge Lornezo and Dani Pedrosa also will be riding in front of their home crowds helping push them even harder.  Lorenzo currently leads the Championship by 7 points and still is early on in the season to call this finished.  Expect Pedrosa to step up his game to show Honda he should be the top rider for the 2013 season.  Ben Spies is still trying to avoid this dark cloud that his been following him since Qatar and his job is on the line with the lack of results so far this season.

Cal Crutchlow on the Tech 3 Yamaha finally gets the new brakes his teammate Andrea Dovisioso received.  Expect Cal to be running up front this weekend with the extra stopping power as he will need a podium to pay for the pricey new brakes.  Cal & Dovi both had crashes while running up front in Le Mans but both riders have been strong all season and both are a threat to the podium.

The Ducati team is off a fresh podium finish in Le Mans with doctor Rossi taking second place.  Nicky Hayden and Valentino Rossi tested new electronics packages and parts last week in Mugello and both seem to be grinning from ear to ear with the improvements.  We have already seen pictures of Valentino Rossi’s bike sporting a new aluminum rear swing arm.  With the confidence of the last podium and possibly a better electronic and handling package don’t discount Rossi and Hayden out the top 5.

Stefan Bradl spent last week at Laguna Seca learning the track onboard a stock Honda CBR 1000RR.  The rookie looks to be preparing for the corkscrew already and is a strong rider.  We have already ear marked Bradl as rookie of the year already.  Don’t let us down now.

The CRT teams are ready for more action.  Colin Edwards is back after his broken collarbone although not 100%.  We expect Randy de Puniet to be fighting tooth and nail this weekend to make up for his highside on the starting line at his home GP in Le Mans due to oil on the track.

Qualifying starts tomorrow so gentleman start your engines!!
