According to an article in Singapore daily, the Canadian Rugby Sevens stop came out on top.

Rugby Canada chief executive officer Allen Vansen declared Hong Kong’s Seven Series “the grandfather” of the tour and something Canada wanted to emulate and they have achieved their goals.

Vancouver is no slouch when it comes to sporting events. The city hosted the 2010 Winter Olympics, splitting venues between Vancouver, Richmond and Whistler.

Vancouver also hosted a number of games during the 2015 Fifa Women’s World Cup, including the final where the United States beat Japan 5-2.

The story of Vancouver’s rise to international sporting and entertainment glory hinges largely on one venue BC Place, situated in the downtown area.

In 2015, World Rugby hosted its first Sevens Series tour stop at BC Place, and tickets sold out. Locals got into the spirit of 7s Rugby, dressed in outrageous costumes, and the city’s hospitality scene responded by opening its arms to locals and tourists alike.

The electricity of rugby sevens debuted at the Rio 2016 Olympics and kept the world on the edge of their seats, delivering a roller coaster of a tournament including big plays, unsung heroes, and overwhelming excitement. It concluded with an emphatic victory by the ‘Flying Fijians’, who brought their country its first ever gold medal.

There are 15 ‘core’ teams who participate at each round of the Series. The teams core includes: Argentina, Australia, Canada, England, Fiji, France, Spain, Kenya, New Zealand, Japan, Samoa, Scotland, South Africa, USA, and Wales.
