The Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) announced today that Mexico and Panama have been selected to host the final tournaments of its Under-20 and Under-17 Championships, respectively, next year.
Both competitions will consist of 12 teams, featuring three from North America, four from Central America and five from the Caribbean.
The Under-20 Championship will be played February 18-March 2, 2013, in Puebla, Mexico. The Estadio Cuauhtemoc and the newly renovated Estadio Universitario Lobos BUAP will be the venues.
In addition to being home of Mexican first division side Puebla, the Estadio Cuauhtemoc hosted matches in the 1970 and 1986 World Cup finals, as well as the 2008 CONCACAF Under-20 Women’s Championship. The newly renovated Estadio Universitario Lobos BUAP is home to the Lobos BUAP of the Mexican second division.
The top four teams will qualify for the 2013 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Turkey.
The Under-17 Championship will be played at the Estadio Rommel Fernandez in Panama City and the Estadio Agustin Muquita Sánchez in La Chorrera, April 6-19, 2013.
The Estadio Rommel Fernandez has hosted the 2012 CONCACAF U-17 Women’s Championship, the 2011 Copa Centroamericana and numerous CONCACAF Champions League matches. The Estadio Agustin Muquita Sanchez was renovated in 2009 and has been the site for several Champions League games.
The top four teams will qualify to the 2013 FIFA U-17 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates.
