Milos Raonic Set to Begin Preparations for 2011

Canada’s top player on the ATP World Tour, Milos Raonic announced today that he has put an end to his 2010 season to rest and begin preparations for his 2011 campaign.

‘’Milos had an excellent season,’’ said Louis Borfiga, Vice-President of High Performance Development at Tennis Canada. ‘’The objective now is to prepare for next season. After a rest period, he will beginning training again before his first tournament of 2011 in Chennai, India.’’

Raonic enjoyed the best season of his young career in 2010. Ranked no. 373 in the world on January 1, he posted excellent results on North American soil which concluded with earning a main draw spot at the U.S. Open. He followed that up by reaching the quarter-finals in Malaysia and the second round in Tokyo where acquitted himself well in a 6-4, 6-4 loss to World No. 1 Rafael Nadal. Raonic finishes his 2010 campaign ranked no. 157 in the world, jumping 216 places since the start of the year.

Russian Federation in Canada

Tennis Canada was recently approached by the Russian Tennis Federation (world junior team ranking of no. 12) to have some of their top junior players train at the National Training Centre in Montreal. Louis Borfiga and his team quickly accepted the offer and they are currently working on finding dates to host them over the next few months.

‘’This shows the strong reputation of Tennis Canada’s program,’’ declared Borfiga. ‘’It will also be an great opportunity for our players to measure themselves against some excellent players who are dominating on the international scene.’’
