Mississauga, November 4, 2011, RangManch-Canada proudly presents the 9th HINDUSTANI DRAMA FESTIVAL in association with Panorama India, supported by the Consulate General  Of India, celebrating the Year of India in Canada, in collaboration with SAWITRI Theatre Group, on Saturday 12th November, 2011 at the Maja Prentice Theatre (formerly the Burnhamthorpe Library Theatre), 1350, Burnhamthorpe Road East, Mississauga, from  3.00 pm to 10.00 pm.  The Consul General of India at Toronto, Ms. Preeti Saran will inaugurate the festival.
 
Jawaid Danish, the Artistic Director of Rang-Manch Canada, a not-for-profit organization promoting experimental, multi-lingual Indian theatre, has been annually organizing the Hindustani Drama Festival, a unique showcase of the vibrant heritage of traditional and contemporary Indian theatre in the Greater Toronto Area. The Festival features one act plays and solo presentations in English, Hindi, Urdu, Bengali, Gujarati, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Sanskrit. The main purpose of this festival is to bring together the rich theatre traditions of the various languages of India and especially showcase the talent of the new generation in our diverse community. A celebrated Urdu playwright and poet and a published author with 12 books to his credit, Danish is the recipient of several awards, the most recent being  the Civic Arts Award (Pickering), Shiromani Sahitya Award (Lucknow) and South Asian Theatre Festival Award (New Jersey). His Urdu plays have been translated into English, Hindi, Bengali, Kannada and Swedish. He is an active member of Pen Canada and an Executive of The Poet Foundation. A former All India Radio drama artiste, he is regularly invited by various universities for play readings and seminars in post-graduate curriculum.
 
RangManch-Canada collaborates with the SAWITRI Theatre Group, an incorporated not-for-profit Mississauga-based organization, SAWITRI’s mandate is to educate, inform, entertain and heal through the arts, especially theatre. SAWITRI’s Artistic Co-Directors, Jasmine Sawant and Shruti Shah program original, challenging and exciting works, of established as well as emerging artists. Their productions showcase the talents of the artists in the community and explore issues of social relevance in the South Asian community.
