An evening of soulful music and heartfelt appreciation can be expected at this years 2nd annual Hit That Jive Jack. Toronto’s Broadway performer Kelly Holiff headlines this casual, fun and intimate evening of performances from some of Toronto’s best and brightest talent, in support of stroke research. The event was created by Marci Trachter and Kelly Holiff in memory of Marcis father, Kellys grandfather – Norm Trachter and his love of jazz, namely the tune Hit That Jive Jack, which he would sing to his grandkids. In December 2008, Norm suffered a massive stroke but just before he passed, his kids got to stand around him and sing Hit That Jive Jack one last time. Today, his granddaughter Kelly Holiff has taken on that love of music and is one of the star performers at the fundraiser. Heart and Stroke Foundation researcher Dr.Deidra Dawson will also be in attendance as music is integral to her research. Dr.Dawson is working with a team on the Harmony study which looks at Music-Supported Rehabilitation, to determine if music-making has the ability to repair the brain and improve the hand function of stroke patients.
