The First Nations and Mtis experience during the War of 1812 will be artistically honoured and explored with new dance, music, theatre, and literary works at the free Indigenous Arts Festival at Fort York National Historic Site from June 20 to 22. These resonant and immersive world premieres include: The Honouring, an evocative multi-disciplinary work from award-winning choreographer Santee Smith’s Kaha:wi Dance Theatre; The Road, a innovative play inspired by an iconic photo of three elderly Six Nations warriors who survived the War of 1812; and Corps de Voyageur / Soldiers in Capotes, the fascinating story of the North West Company’s Mtis military unit featuring original music from the Mtis Fiddler Quartet. The free family-friendly festival will launch on June 20 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. and will continue on National Aboriginal Day June 21 from noon to 10 p.m. and on June 22 from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. Fort York is located at 250 Fort York Blvd. and is one of 10 historic museums operated by the City of Toronto.
