Location: Fort York National Historic Site
Fort York National Historic Site will become a theatre of war with a weekend of muskets, marching and cannon fire. Fort York will reanimate the military manoeuvres of the Battle of York at the free War of 1812 Festival on Saturday, June 15 (from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.); and Sunday, June 16 (from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.). Toronto’s most traumatic and historic battle will be staged in three stirring sequences created and narrated by historic re-creation director Peter Twist and featuring over 250 re-enactors. Throughout the weekend, Fort York will also appear as it was two centuries ago, with period food, music and dance. Performers include the Drums of the Crown Forces, the York Regency Dancers, musical group Gin Lane, and Anishinaube performers Morningstar River. Visitors can also tour the encampment, interact with the re-enactors and watch demonstrations, and peruse 1812-era reproduction items at the Sutler’s Row marketplace. Fort York is located at 250 Fort York Blvd. and is one of 10 historic museums operated by the City of Toronto. The public can call 416-392-6907 or visit http://www.toronto.ca/fortyork for more information.
