USA: Oye! Times readers Get FREE $30 to spend on Amazon, Walmart…Dates: July 18, 2013 to July 18, 2013
Location: Colourgenics
7-9pm Thursday July 18th Cost: Complimentary Capacity: 30 (Please RSVP to LAD@Colourgenics.com) A professional carpenter with a formal education in painting from OCAD, Toronto photographer Ian Busher experiments with colour, form and texture to create imaginative, abstract images from scenes of decay. Harnessing his skill as a craftsman, he uses epoxy resin to give his work an enticing textural quality. He is often complimented on the impeccable (some would say immaculate) quality of his finishes, and comes to Life After Digital on July 18th to show us how it is done. Topics discussed and demonstrated: -necessary supplies and tools, what to get and where -preparation of the art and area where you will be using resin -safety precautions -calculating quantity -mixing and pouring -torching -curing time and maintenance -repairs and re-dos -common mistakes and how to avoid them Samples of finished work will be provided as the resin poured during the demonstration will not dry for over 8 hours. Becuase this workshop involves a demonstration of the resin process, small quantities of the chemicals will create an odor in the IX Gallery that may offend sensitive attendees, although the windows will be opened. Please be advised that epoxy resin does come with warnings to work with a respirator and in a well ventilated area. If you have a mask of your own, please feel free to bring it. If you are extremely sensitive to chemical smells, you may want to reconsider learning about or working with resin! For more of Ian’s work, please visit www.ianbusher.com. — Life After Digital was conceived from a photographers lament that there is no life after digital: you shoot hundreds of frames and are locked up at the computer for the rest of the day if not days, organizing, adjusting and processing files. The Life After Digital initiative consists of intimate seminars and artist talks in the IX Gallery. Depending on the response, these may develop into workshops aimed at demystifying and smoothing out the digital workflow. In partnership with guest artists and experts, we will inspire you while giving you the tools to work more efficiently, produce quality images and in the process reclaim a good portion of your personal time. Particular attention will be given to print-oriented issues, for artists who would like to explore the potential of current technologies to open new doors and bring ideas to life. The LAD mandate is to have fun. Our goals are to create a community spirit, encourage discussion, and foster a better understanding of the possibilities of digital imaging and printing. Please contact Colourgenics if you are interested in joining the LAD mailing list.
