Under the Artistic Direction of Courtnae Bowman, Bridges Ballet dancers train alongside Cadence’s own professional dancers, forging a relationship with them as mentors. The time period between graduating from a studio or college life and establishing professional career can be confusing and difficult. Cadence hopes to provide the guidance and exposure to allow each dancer to succeed in their dreams. The companys repertoire is a versatile blending of pointe, pop and lock, modern and contemporary jazz. Through exposing the dancers to choreographic styles from all genres the dancers are continually developing an articulate movement vocabulary. This vocabulary allows Cadence to work in a contemporary dance style that fuses the intricate isolation of hip-hop, the grounded depth of modern, the power and fierce edge of jazz, the partnering and connection of ballroom while using the line and classical elegance of ballet and the tool of the pointe shoe. Company members dance the work of artistic director, Courtnae Bowman, as well as worked with established and emerging choreographers in workshops, creation, and production. Choreographers have come from across Canada workshops and production and have included: Josh Beamish, Gioconda Barbuto, Valerie Calam, Zhenya Cerneacov, Constance Cooke, Sarah Doucet, Robert Halley, Allen Kaeja, Karen Kaeja, Hanna Kiel, Robert Kingsbury, Sharon Moore, Simone Orlando, Donald Sales, Amy Hampton, Lucy Rupert, Louis Laberge-Ct, and Avinoam Silverman. Cadence Ballet has been invited to perform in festivals, productions and galas throughout ontario including: FAT (Fashion Art Toronto), Fresh Blood, Dance Ontario DanceWeekend, Dance Made In Canada, The Guelph Contemporary Dance Festival, Dance Expeditions, Women in Dance, Dance Ontario’s International Dance Day, The Bazaar, Talent Defined, Breaking Through, Dances of Offering, Heart and Soul and Magpie Dances.
