Seven Crowns Tattoo is proud to announce their fourth annual charity art auction benefitting the Art City in St. James Town program on October 6, 2013 at 6 Degrees Nightclub in Toronto. This shop-run auction is the longest running event of its kind and calls on renowned tattoo artists from across the country to donate original pieces that follow the events unique theme. This years focus is Sacred: Religious Icons and Imaginations with all submissions based on the images and stories passed down from generations and interpreted through paint, sculpture and multi-media platforms. Artwork will be displayed throughout 6 Degrees Nightclub for bidders to view until the auction comes to a head with a live battle for each coveted piece. Aside from Canadas top tattoo artists paying contribution, many members of the performing arts have also participated in years past, including musicians, acrobats and belly dancers, to provide a memorable evening of art and entertainment. This year, of course, will be no exception. Shop owners George Brown and Matt Ellis first became involved with the St. James Town program when Mr. Ellis participated in the 2007 Northern Ink Exposure art fusion hosted by renowned tattoo artist Paul Booth and show organizer Damian McGrath. The resulting creations were auctioned off for the charity, and the kids got involved as well. After seeing the wonderful work that they do with these kids who have few places to turn, it was obvious that this was an organization that deserved continued support. Its a chance for us to give back to our community here in Toronto, and for artists across the country to maybe inspire future artists, says Mr. Brown. St. James Town is the largest high-rise community in Canada, made up of 19 high-rise buildings that range from fourteen to thirty-two stories. Approximately 17,000 people live in the neighbourhoods 19 apartment towers, making it the most densely populated community in Canada. Art City in St. James Town began in 2000 as a not-for-profit organization committed to providing after school art programs to children and youth of this community. The art programs are intended to foster creative thinking and nurture self-esteem and personal accomplishment.
