Julia Gersovitz “Toronto Union Station: Vision and Values in Urban Conservation” Thursday, October 3, 2013 Panel Discussion at Noon to 2:00 PM | The Pit (ARC 200) 6:30 PM | The Pit (ARC 200) Julia Gersovitz is a founding partner of FGMDA, one of the countrys largest architectural firms specializing in heritage conservation, with offices in Montreal and Toronto. Julias commitment to excellence in this field has led her into four interrelated sectors private practice, teaching, design review commissions and grassroots advocacy. As an architect and architectural historian, she has been able to bridge the gap between scholarly knowledge and the practice of building conservation. Her ability to reconcile heritage needs with contemporary expectations has been recognized in numerous award-winning projects, including the West Block Rehabilitation on Parliament Hill. Julia is the partner-in-charge of the heritage conservation aspects for the Union Station Rehabilitation Project. In addition to the evening lecture, Julia will participate on a public panel discussion with David Clusiau, Senior Principal of Architectural Design at NORR Principals, Toronto, Mary MacDonald, manager of Heritage Preservation Services, Toronto City Planning, and Kevin Hutchinson, a graduate of TU Delft and registered architect in the Netherlands. The panel, moderated by Prof. Ian MacBurnie, will be framed around the theme of “tensions between heritage and moving forward”. Both events are open to the public and free of charge.
