Monday October 21, 2013 at the Estonian House 6:00PM Doors Open (Concession & Cash Bar) Expect yummy kringel! 7:00PM Screening All evening films include post-screening discussion led by Marek Tamm. Pigeons Director: Kadriann Kibus Year: 2012 Length: 52 minutes Language: Russian & Estonian w/ subtitles Homeless Nadeda cannot cope with the death of her husband, while pigeon-breeder Oleg has lost his job and is in failing health. How do two people who have lost everything that was once important to them keep going? Nadeda hopes to find solace in the Russian Orthodox Church being built nearby, and Oleg has his flock, but is that enough? Pigeons is a creative documentary about people who will not be shooed away like the birds that line our streets looking for scraps to survive. Bloodtype Director: Leeni Linna Year: 2013 Length: 67 minutes Language: Estonian & Russian w/ subtitles There’s something unreal about seeing an Estonian flag flying from a tank travelling through the dusty terrain of Afghanistan, but that’s where Leeni Linna’s compelling, up-close-and-personal documentary takes us as she accompanies a band of Estonian soldiers on tour in the embattled country. Each man feels the weight of their mission, some, like Jaan, deal with feelings of guilt over the death of a comrade, while Estonian-Russian Andrei, who lost part of his leg in a previous tour and is recovering in Estonia, questions his ability to serve once more. http://estdocs-oct21-2013-eorg.eventbrite.ca/
