Beetles are the largest group of insects in the world, with over 300,000 species. Beetles are found on land and in fresh water and can adapt to almost any environment. One out of every 4 animals on the planet is a beetle! We all know their names: Ladybird beetle; June Bug; Firefly. Some are microscopic while others are gigantic! Some beetles have a big impact on our economy, including the Emerald Ash Borer, Colorado Potato Beetle and Mountain Pine Beetle. The Toronto Entomologists Association and the Royal Ontario Museum present the Third Annual Quimby F. Hess Lecture on Saturday, November 16th, 2013 at 1:30 pm. Entitled MY INORDINATE FONDNESS FOR BEETLES, noted author, lecturer and photographer Dr. Arthur V. Evans of Richmond, Virginia, will be describing this remarkable insect group and what lead to the publication of his recent book, BEETLES OF EASTERN NORTH AMERICA. ADMISSION TO THIS LECTURE, BEING HELD IN THE EATON THEATRE, ROYAL ONTARIO MUSEUM (PRESIDENTS CHOICE ENTRANCE AT THE SOUTH END OF BUILDING) IS FREE, BUT PRE REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED. FREE TICKETS ARE AVAILABLE AT: http://tinyurl.com/mbh9xtc AND THROUGH A LINK AT WWW.ONTARIOINSECTS.ORG. This lecture is made possible by the generous support of the Hess Family. Quimby F.
