The Jewish Exodus from Arab Lands 19471967 Sunday December 8, 2013 at 7:30 pm PART I OF A SERIES OF FIVE PROGRAMS The film, THE JEWS OF EGYPT, follows the lives of the Egyptian- Jewish community in the 20th century until many left under duress in the 1950s. The film-maker, Amir Ramses (who will join us by Skype from Cairo) tries to answer the question how did the Jews of Egypt turn, in the eyes of their fellow Egyptians, from partners in the same country to enemies? Ramses and co-writer, Mostafa Youssef, interviewed political figures, researchers, and some of the few remaining Egyptian Jews. The exodus was linked to general persecution, the Arab-Israeli conflict, and the resentment of the Egyptian leadership to the establishment of the State of Israel. Until recently the film was banned in Egypt but has won acclamation and awards at film festivals abroad. Join us as we explore the stories of our own Arab refugees. Doors open 7 pm and program begins at 7:30 pm. Light refreshments will be served. Cost: $5 for members and students. $10 for non-members. Congregation Darchei Noam Synagogue, 864 Sheppard Ave. W.
