Ambassador Auditorium (Pasadena, CA)

Beethoven "Emperor" Piano Concerto

In May 1809 Napoleon’s cannons bombarded Vienna during his invasion of Austria. As he shielded his damaged ears from the artillery, Beethoven was determined to preserve the fragments of a new piano concerto rattling around in his head. Those fragments would become his fifth and final piano concerto, the sublime, beautiful and exuberant Emperor. The Pasadena Symphony performs this work as well as Prokofiev’s Classical Symphony and Schubert’s Unfinished Symphony. Van Cliburn Competition medalist Sean Chen joins the Symphony for this special performance at Ambassador Auditorium under the baton of Nicholas McGegan.
