The Toronto Urban Sketchers is a group of art enthusiasts from various backgrounds who meet regularly around the city and illustrate it from their unique perspective. The group is a chapter of the international urban sketchers who’s mission is to raise the artistic storytelling and educational value of location drawing, promoting its practice and connecting people around the world who draw on location where they live and travel.

The Toronto chapter was founded by Marie-Judith Jean-Louis in 2013, as a way to meet like minded people and explore the city. This year, the group collaborated with Areej Art Gallery to showcase some of their work including the Toronto’s Disappearing Landmarks project. Several members of the group embarked on a collaborative project to sketch some of the disappearing landmarks of the city of Toronto such as Honest Ed’s, the Cookbook Store, Captain John’s Restaurant boat and more. Their sketches have been compiled into an illustrated book which will be also available during the exhibition from December 5 to December 19 at the gallery.

We would like to invite you to the launch of the exhibition on Saturday December 5, 2015 where their original artwork will be featured. You’ll also get a chance to peruse through their sketchbooks and see them sketching live. It’s also an opportunity to find a unique gift right in time for the holidays.

See you there!
