Discover the ways in which natural materials have been used for millennia to produce colour on cloth. Participants will use kitchen scraps, plant materials collected from urban parks, and imported dyestuffs to create a sample book that shows the ways in which these dyes react to different types of fibres. Be prepared to be surprised by the colours that come from our pots! Samples and resources will be presented as inspiration for those looking to continue their exploration of this ancient craft.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR:
Susan Fohr is a Toronto based museum educator who spends most of her spare time knitting, spinning, sewing and natural dyeing (or reading about them). She discovered the craft of natural dyeing while working at Black Creek Pioneer Village, and is currently transforming an 8-lb sheep’s fleece into yarn for a sweater.
