While initially they decided to retain the original title, now they believe that it should be titled as The Shaukeens.

Producer Murad Khetani stated that the title change adds the contemporary touch. Though it is an official remake, according to Murad, it is only the essence of the previous film that has been maintained. However, the story and the characters have undergone some changes in order to make it relevant to modern times. They are also planning to add some more humour, colour, more glamour and edginess in order to present it as a complete package. They feel that the current title adds to the coolness quotient and will be able to attract the youth audience too.

While the film has been having a fairly smooth shooting schedule now, prior to this, the remake had faced many obstacles with the writer Rumi Jaffrey walking out of the film and later, Nargis Fakhri who was roped in to play the lead, too quit the film owing to her other commitments. However, Lisa Haydon was later taken on board for the film.

The 80s Shaukeen had Utpal Dutt, A K Hangal and Ashok Kumar playing lecherous old men who decide to go on a trip to Goa and meet the hot looking Rati. The three decide to impress the young girl unaware of the fact that she is the girlfriend of their driver Mithun Chakraborty.

The Shaukeens, however, will star Anupam Kher, Paresh Rawal and Annu Kapoor in the role of oldies and Akshay Kumar will play the role of a driver and Lisa will play Rati's role. The film is directed by Abhishek Sharma and it is slated to release on November 7.
