JUBA, 23rd March 2015 [Gurtong]: The Apostolic Archbishop of Middle East, Dr. Bahjat Batarseh last Wednesday said that there is need to drop the looming sanctions on South Sudan.
Dr. Bahjat was speaking in a public rally at the Dr. John Garang Mausoleum that was organized by the SPLM leadership where was given the opportunity to make a speech.
The Apostolic Archbishop condemned America and called on China, Europe, and the Middle East to drop their threats on sanctions and instead support and invest in South Sudan.
“I see today South Sudan is facing threats from friends about sanctions, invasion of armies from the North, South and the East. I can hear the news of the problem of that; if you do not do this, we will cut off the people of South Sudan which means the death of many people” said Dr. Bahjat.
“I am appealing today, right now with the Nation of America that I love and happen to be the member of that beloved Nation. I am calling on Europe, China, Russia, the World, and the Middle East, to avoid all these threats.”
“I want to say to the Country of America and Europe; you have invested in South Sudan in millions and billions of dollars. You helped South Sudan struggle to be free. You helped South Sudan when they were trying to get their liberty and independence” he said. “God has not forgotten what Europe and America have done and today I say to America and to the World. Do not forget what you have done and turn to the wrong situation by bringing in sanctions on the Nation of South Sudan” he said.
“Instead of that, invest in South Sudan; build South Sudan, bring money, support the military, bring universities, hospitals, open the roads, of South Sudan” said the Apostolic Arch. Bishop.
“Let South Sudan stands as a free Nation recognized by the world but above all I believe God recognizes South Sudan and the people who have paid with their blood who died for the liberation of this land” he stressed.
Meanwhile, the government has reiterated calls to drop sanctions saying it will worsen the situation of the country.
