A moderate earthquake of magnitude 5.3 on Richter scale hits Central Philippines early Tuesday morning resulting in a widespread panic with people coming out of their offices and homes on road.

The earthquake led to various windows breaking, televisions bursting, mirror breaking on tables, and also demolishing of an old abandoned house giving several cracks to other buildings. The quake is expected to be a series of the earthquake that killed 58 individuals about a month ago in an island of Philippines. So far, there are no reports of deaths. However, 9 are being reported injured.

According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology, the earthquake of the magnitude 5.2 had hit the central and parts of eastern provinces of Philippines originated from sea only three kms north of the city of Masbate in the island province of Masbate. It hit the provinces of Albay, Sorsogon, Iloilo, and Aklan at about 7 am.

There has been no significant damage reported to any of the buildings or households. However, children going to schools faced severe panic as most of the schools were closed for the day with classes suspended for the buildings to be checked for any damages by the earthquake.

The mayor of Masbate spoke to the people of his province via radio urging them to remain at peace since no major damage was incurred. He said, “There was panic, people were scared to go out. People were having breakfast and preparing to go to work and school when the quake happened. There was an old three-story building that collapsed, but engineers had already condemned it long before the quake”.
