Apparently, the U.S. State Department will soon announce its decision on TransCanada’s proposed Keystone XL pipeline. According to several reports, the announcement was expected Wednesday with high chances of rejecting TransCanada’s current proposal.

Although White House spokesman Jay Carney hesitated to confirm the news, he affirmed that the government could perhaps make an announcement in a few hours. Carney said he could not announce “one way or another” whether a decision had been made but there may be “more information on that later today (Wednesday).”

Earlier Wednesday, Victoria Nuland, a spokeswoman for the State Department, said she had no announcements to make “now, or from this podium.” However, another briefing is scheduled for 3 p.m. ET in another room at the State Department.

“As of 30 seconds before I walked in here, my understanding was that a decision had not yet been made,” department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland told reporters at her daily briefing.

According to Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird, the government fully supports Keystone XL and is awaiting an official announcement from the U.S.

Baird said: “It’s a challenging political hot potato south of the border, but obviously we were very disappointed with the decision in December [to delay approval]. I probably should hold off [on commenting] until we have anything formal.”
