Calgary police have announced to have ruled a suspicious death of a four-year-old girl, who died at her southeast residence in December, as a homicide case. According to the police, the child’s parents have been interviewed, but they are not so co-operative with the investigation. No charges have been laid at this time.

A report of a girl in medical distress triggers police and paramedics to reach the Erin Woods home in the 0 to 100 block of Erin Ridge Road S.E. at around 3:30 p.m. on Dec. 19. Upon arrival, the girl, identified as Olive Rebekah Oluwafemi, was found in cardiac arrest and not breathing. Thereafter, the girl was shifted to a nearby hospital but she failed to survive. According to a homicide unit detective, Staff Sgt. Colin Chisholm, initial reports claim that the girl had died of choking. Furthermore, the investigators believe that the girl died of injuries sustained within her home and it does not look like an accident. According to Chisholm, no “medical intervention such as CPR” was performed.

Keeping tight lipped about the majority details regarding the investigation, Chisholm stated that “child death investigations are incredibly complex investigations to undergo. There are number of steps we have to undertake to complete an investigation. Therefore, the details of those investigations and the steps we do have to undertake will not be released until such time, if at any time, charges are laid.” He alleged that “we believe others may have information and that’s why we’re asking for other people to come forward.”
