As the result of an investigation that began on Friday, October 29, 2010, investigators have charged a 36-year-old building inspector after money was demanded in exchange for avoiding permit-related fines after renovation construction took place in the Markham area. Compensation was solicited from at least two victims who had purchased investment properties and neglected to obtain proper building permits. More than $4,000 was solicited from victims who were advised that they would be avoiding larger fines from the Town of Markham. No money was exchanged.
So far, investigators have identified two victims but believe there may be more. Anyone with information is asked to come forward.
