The investigation led to the arrest of 25-year-old Kevin Doiron, of Saumarez, 19-year-old Gilbert Mallet, of Shippagan, 20-year-old Jimmy Losier-Sonier, of Val Comeau, and 43-year-old Kevin Thomas, of Petit-Tracadie. All four suspects appeared in provincial court in Tracadie-Sheila and Caraquet on January 4, 2011.
Preliminary charges of break and enter were laid against the four suspects. Jimmy Losier-Sonier and Kevin Thomas were released on an undertaking to a judge. They will appear in Caraquet Provincial Court on January 26, 2011 at 9:30 a.m. to enter a plea.
Kevin Doiron, who was still in custody, appeared in Caraquet Provincial Court this morning for a bail hearing. Judge Yvette Finn ordered Mr. Doiron to undergo a 30-day psychiatric assessment. He will appear in court again February 7, 2011 at 10:00 a.m., at which point a date for his release will be set.
The last suspect, Gilbert Mallet, who is still in custody, will appear in Tracadie-Sheila Provincial Court on Thursday, January 6, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. for a bail hearing.
The RCMP expects to lay further charges in relation with this incident. The investigation is ongoing.
