Imran Khan joins Dr Tahirul Qadri in his mission to fight for electoral reforms, which mainly includes the reconstitution of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP). Together, Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) and the Pakistan Awami Tehrik (PAT) will struggle to bring forward an impartial caretaker government for the upcoming elections.

Dr Qadri plans to file a petition regarding the reconstitution of the ECP in the Supreme Court on Thursday while Imran Khan has declared to fully support the cause. PTI sent a delegation including Senior Vice President Shah Mehmood Qureshi, central leader Dr Arif Alvi, Ijaz Chauhadry, Firdus Shamim Naqvi and Javed Hashmi at Dr Qadri’s residence to discuss the matter in detail. After a three-hour long meeting, both the parties told the media that they will join hands for the cause of free and fair elections.

Qadri told the media: “We – both parties – want implementation of the Constitution in letter and spirit and will not let anyone derail the democratic process and delay the next elections.”

According to Javed Hashmi, PTI was in contact with Dr Qadri ever since he returned to Pakistan. Making reference to the long march, Hashmi claimed: “Children, men and women were symbols of change, who braved severe cold weather.”

“We are with those who want a positive change in the country through electoral process. It was first sitting of both the parties which held in cordial manner. We will continue meeting each others in future to strengthen ties,” he added.
