FIFA secretary general Jerome Valcke has revealed that the governing body has released an extra $100 million to South Africa’s World Cup organisers to ensure that the training camps used by national teams at the tournament are completed on time.

In December, England officials expressed concerns about their chosen base, the Royal Bafokeng Sports Campus, and Valcke conceded that “some teams were unhappy about the level of the services or the level of the pitches.”

“That’s a cost FIFA took over to ensure that things were delivered on time,” he told the BBC.

However, the secretary general guaranteed that the increase in the organisation budget, now around $1.5 billion overall, will be more than covered by projected revenues of more than $3.2 billion.
