MTS to facilitate world record as presenting sponsor of the World’s Largest Social

Olympian Cindy Klassen among celebrities planning to attend

MTS, Manitoba’s hometown telecommunications provider, is a presenting sponsor of Manitoba Homecoming 2010’s "World’s Largest Social" on Saturday, May 15. That evening, thousands of Manitobans are expected to set a world record when the traditional Manitoban celebration takes place simultaneously in over 60 communities across the province.

"As Manitoba’s hometown telecommunications provider, being a presenting sponsor of the World’s Largest Social and a presenting partner of the Manitoba Homecoming 2010 initiative is a natural fit for MTS," said Kelvin Shepherd, President, MTS. "The social is an important part of Manitoba’s cultural fabric and this one promises to bring together thousands of Manitobans from across Manitoba and around the globe."

Each community’s social will be unique, featuring live music, silent auctions, and traditional social food.

Dozens of Manitoba celebrities will also be home to take part in the festivities. MTS spokesperson Cindy Klassen, Canada’s greatest Olympian, plans to join fellow Manitobans at the Winnipeg Convention Centre, the Winnipeg venue for the World’s Largest Social.

"This is a chance to reconnect with family and friends, and an excellent fundraising opportunity for the participating communities," said Kevin Walters, Executive Director of Manitoba Homecoming 2010. "Each community that has agreed to host a Manitoba Homecoming social has chosen a local charity to receive the proceeds from their event."
