As home to one of Canada’s most deeply rooted German populations, Waterloo Region also hosts the second largest Bavarian celebration outside Germany. From October 8-16, the 42nd Annual Kitchener-Waterloo Oktoberfest will mark a time of cultural celebration, family enjoyment and entertainment.

“Kitchener-Waterloo Oktoberfest is Canada’s Greatest Bavarian Festival,” said Susan Cudahy, general manager, Waterloo Regional Tourism Marketing Corporation. “Aside from its traditional activities, Kitchener-Waterloo Oktoberfest hosts events for every age group. Whether you are looking for music, sports, fashion, traditional German culture or a family friendly environment, there is something tailored to every age and interest.”

While most people view Kitchener-Waterloo Oktoberfest as a time for beer, schnitzel and sauerkraut, there are many “Wunderbar” events waiting to be discovered. Waterloo Region invites you to slip on your lederhosen and check out the top things to do at Kitchener-Waterloo Oktoberfest:
Festhallen
Festhallen are where the core of activities and festivities can be found. Bavarian decorated buildings, tents and five German Clubs offer award winning oompah bands, Bavarian dancers, and mouth watering cuisine. Each Festhalle is uniquely different, catering to the young and the "young at heart".
 
Oktoberfest Rocks the Tent
Oct. 2, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. This will be the Ultimate Oktoberfest Experience! Oktoberfest Rocks the Tent before the official opening of the festival with Canadian music icons Our Lady Peace!
 

 

Opening Ceremonies: Kitchener – Waterloo
FREE event on Oct. 8, 2010 at 11:30 a.m. Kitchener Civic Square will be bustling with ceremony, music, dancing and the enthusiasm of thousands of revelers. Honoured guests and dignitaries will accompany Kitchener-Waterloo Oktoberfest President, Paul Buttinger, the newly crowned Miss Oktoberfest and everyone’s favourite ambassador Onkel Hans in kicking off the nine days of celebration and the Spirit of Gemuetlichkeit.
 
Rocktoberfest9
7 p.m. on Oct. 10, 2010 at Altes Muenchen Haus – Queensmount Arena, Kitchener. This year, for one night only, Rock and Polka will come together at the Molson Canadian Rocktoberfest Haus Party! This year Rocktoberfest9 features illScarlett, KO and Walter Ostanek!
 

 

Thanksgiving Day Parade
Starting in downtown Waterloo at 8:30 a.m. on Oct. 11, 2010. Kitchener-Waterloo Oktoberfest features one of the most spectacular Thanksgiving Day Parades in Canada. Join over 150,000 Fest-goers as they line King Street on Thanksgiving morning, eagerly awaiting the colourful floats, clowns and award winning marching bands from Canada and the United States.
 
Default Live at Bingemans
On October 15, Canadian band Default will rock Bingeman’s Marshall Hall – one of the largest Festhallen available during Kitchener-Waterloo Oktoberfest that includes a Schnapps bar, SPIEL CASINO and highly acclaimed food and entertainment.
