Join us for a very special Six Degrees of Social Innovation November 6, 6:00-8:00pm, at CSI Annex. On the first Thursday of every month, we open our doors to Toronto’s social change community to build connections and hear from thought-provoking speakers. This month’s topic is Food.

We have a treat for your mind and a treat for your taste buds (though it may feel more like a trick)…

For your mind:

Food philosopher and entrepreneur Dr. Aruna Antonella Handa will give a short talk entitled Eating Innovation: cultivating the future of food. Aruna founded Alimentary Initiatives to re-conceive how we think of food. Her work on office markets, the Future Food Salons and promoting edible insects has been reviewed in print and broadcast media on three continents including the Globe and Mail, the BBC and Al Jazeera. Currently, she is working on a book drawing on her previous work and new research on the future of food.

For your taste buds:

Some have been touting it as the more eco-friendly, sustainable protein of the future. It’s already a staple in many cultures, and we’re bringing it to you: insects! Local Toronto chef Cookie Martinez will be preparing cricket kebabs with golden berry sauce, Thai spoons and crittles (cricket brittles).

As always, the night will be filled with opportunities to make new connections in the social mission sector, including facilitated networking activities.

Your 10$ ticket will get you: a talk on the future of food + snacks of the insect and non-insect varieties + a drink from the CSI Coffee Pub (they have beer and wine!) + networking!

So get your cricket…er, ticket while they last.
