Star Wars, the Matrix, Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Hunger Games, and many modern age movies echo timeless myths that have marked the history of humankind: Hercules, Odysseus or Theseus in Greece, Gilgamesh in Sumer, and so many more!

Beyond cultures, civilizations, and ages, we, human beings, keep feeling inspired by and hungry for heroic stories where ordinary people overcome challenging trials, driven by a fierce love for Justice, and discover unsuspected powers within.

Why this shared need for heroes?

Can we live without dreams? Don’t we all feel, with more or less intensity, the call towards the surpassing of our limits? Many of us perceive the urgency to set ourselves in motion and do something great and useful in the world.

This inner calling is the call of the hero. It is the eternal heroic quest.

In this talk-seminar, we’ll explore the main components of the myth, and see how we can use them in our daily life.

At the heart of heroes’ myths, is the adventure of self-knowledge: a journey that leads us to overcome confusion, fear and discouragement, by the awakening of our superpowers, that’s to say virtues such as kindness, clarity, courage, concentration, generosity, calmness, etc.

As a school of philosophy in the classical manner currently involved in 60 countries, New Acropolis has been supporting the development of thousands of “little heroes” for the past 58 years. This talk will reflect this invaluable experience!

Our world needs the hero within each of us!
