Originally premiering to a sold-out audience at Lula Lounge in December, 2014 the Revue returns for two nights only to the Brigantine Room at Harbourfront Centre!
Directed by Emmy Award-winning Ted Louis Levy, this evening includes the world premiere of Transference, featuring original choreography by Allison Toffan and original music by Josh Grossman, and the Toronto Jazz Orchestra. Acclaimed dancer/choreographer Lisa La Touche contributes as well – two memorable evenings of tap and big band not to be missed!
“The opportunity to work with Allison and an outstanding group of dancers over these past two years has been incredibly enriching,” said Josh. “For these November shows, I feel the collaboration between dancers, musicians and co-artistic directors has grown – in order to create music for Allison’s Transference, for example, we’ve had to work more closely than ever, each striving to understand the intricacies of the other’s art. This has created a unique challenge – one which musicians and dancers alike are excited to take on.”
“We really do get the rare opportunity to step into each other’s roles, working side by side like never before, which is the ultimate goal for any creative collaboration,” said Allison. “It’s pretty rare that your goals get accomplished beyond your expectations. The Big Band Tap Revue, a co-creation of Toronto Jazz Orchestra Artistic Director Josh Grossman and acclaimed tap dancer Allison Toffan, explores the relationship between big band music and tap dance. With repertoire including swing, pop and more contemporary sounds – including choreography and compositions created specifically for the project – this show guarantees to dispel any preconceived notions attached to big band and tap.
