Navillus Gallery is pleased to present Atmospheric Abstraction, an exhibition featuring the work of contemporary Canadian artist Janet Read.

Janet Read masterfully creates abstracted landscapes through layers of oil and alkyd that are poured and moved with spatulas in a fluid gesture, embodying the ephemeral ways of cloud and water. Narratives of space and light are the visible result of Read’s engagement with the lake and seascape. Her work is intuitive, beginning with mark making and initial colour decisions. The improvisation follows using heart, mind and memory as partners in Read’s engagement with the visible world.

Read has exhibited throughout Canada, recently in Toronto and Montreal. Her works reside in numerous collections, including the Ontario Government Archives Collection, the Royal Bank Collection, Markham Museum, and numerous other private and public institutions.
