USA: Oye! Times readers Get FREE $30 to spend on Amazon, Walmart…Quietly, this week without any publicity of fanfare, here comes the film a little love story to vie for audiences' attention with the week's big love saga Hero.
Debutant director Prakash Nambiar's The Perfect Girl: Ek Simple Si Love Story introduces veejay Teeshay (he anchors Zoom's Planet Bollywood) with Tara-Alisha Berry (whom we saw as Mastram's wife in the film about the porn writer). The small and simple love story chronicles the journey of a pair who meet fall in love and then separate for a decade.
Director Nambiar hopes word-of-mouth would work for the film. "With so many upcoming releases, we would have someone or the other on the other side. So it might as well be Hero. We are confident about our film."
Nambiar is not aiming at getting a blockbuster on his bio-data. "We are not looking at 10s or 100s of crores. Whatever we get we would be happy with it. We're working in very limited budgets. Hence the silent release. We've no money for publicity. We're hoping our film does the talking. We're praying that everyone enjoys the film."
Teeshay who is a popular TV anchor is not looking at himself as a rival to this week's other debutant Sooraj Pancholi. "Sooraj is already a star. All the best to him. I come from a middle-class background with zero connection and backing. So the film releasing in itself is a huge moment for me. I will savour my moments with "the perfect girl" and hope it strikes the right notes."
Teeshay says his family hopes he will find his bearing in Bollywood without any backing. "I was going to fly to USA for my masters. But I changed my mind. I took 6 months from my parents to let me give acting a shot. Till date I've done modelling for more than 80 ads, directed short plays and school plays, taught acting at an NGO and recently started anchoring too."
He is happy to be the modest outsider in showbiz. "My parents are proud of me and that makes me the happiest. I am born and brought up in Mumbai in a Gujarati family. I have studied in Mumbai in G.D. Somani school. And I am a computer engineer with a first-class degree."
What sort of an impact is the film hoping for?
"It's straight from the heart and we hope the audience receives it in that spirit," says director Nambiar whose animation company did the cartoon graphics in Kunal Kohli's Hum Tum.
