After securing the test series with two consecutive victories, Australia will look to whitewash when they will face Sri Lanka in the final and dead rubber, played at the Sydney Cricket Ground on January 3, 2013. While Sri Lanka will look to save the honor by taking a chance for a win that may fade away their humiliating series defeat against Aussies.
Australia will be hoping to start the year on a positive note and despite having the series in their pocket they still won’t try either Glenn Maxwell or Usman Khawaja. Instead they will play with Matthew Wade and Mitchell Johnson. Michael Hussey’s international career will also come to an end along with Mahela Jayawardene’s reign as captain. Hussey has been one of the most consistent Australian players in the past few years and the fans are hoping to see a big inning from him in his last test appearance. The probable Aussies squad will include: Michael Clarke (captain), David Warner, Ed Cowan, Phil Hughes, Mike Hussey, Matthew Wade, Mitchell Johnson, Peter Siddle, Mitchell Starc, Jackson Bird, Nathan Lyon, Glenn Maxwell.
Sri Lanka need to play with all their efforts to avoid a whitewash. A more responsible play is required of them to avoid all the past batting collapses as they are not in the situation to repeat any of the mistakes that they made in the 1st two test matches. Dhamika Prasad bowled remarkably and did grab a few wickets in the 2nd Test but remained unable to stop a heavy defeat. Now, a more mature play is required from him as he will be leading the bowling attack with Eranga. The likely Sri Lankan lineup will include: Tillakaratne Dilshan, Dimuth Karunaratne, Dinesh Chandimal, Mahela Jayawardene (captain), Thilan Samaraweera, Angelo Mathews, 7 Prasanna Jayawardene, Dhammika Prasad, Rangana Herath, Shaminda Eranga, Nuwan Pradeep.
