A car with two passengers crashed into a snowplow assembled by the Department of Transportation on the Northern Peninsula Highway today. The RCMP of Deer Lake RCMP confirms that both passengers of the car passed away at the scene. The incident took place sometime around 2:30 p.m. when a small south-bound car hit a north-bound snowplow on slippery roads with falling snow.

The two dead passengers were the only occupants of the vehicle, while the snowplow driver remained uninjured.  Police and other authorities, including emergency respondents, reached the scene on-time and began collecting evidence to investigate the true cause of accident. Drivers and general public are requested to stay away from the area until the road is cleared and given a go-ahead to reopen for general traffic. Perhaps, it is expected that the road will open for traffic to at least go through one-side lane within the next hour.

RCMP in Deer Lake have advised to close the roads because of the seriousness of the motor accident on the Northern Peninsula Highway (Route 430 Viking Trail). The RCMP asserts that drivers intending to use the route are advised to reroute their destination as the road is expected to remain closed for at least three to five hours while police pursues investigation.   The exact location of the accident was almost one kilometer north of the intersection of Route 430 and Cormack access.   The RCMP have assured to make a follow-up announcement once the road is reopened for general traffic again.
