EES government-owned bulldozer used to construct roads in Torit town [©Gurtong]The Government of Japan has donated more than 14.8 million United States dollars (USD) to South Sudan to cater for security and social infrastructure development in the country.

A section of the media has reported that Japanese Ambassador to South Sudan, Hon. Wada Akinori announced his country’s support late last month in Juba during the inauguration of South Sudan’s six built and completed bridges. 
  
The Ambassador further reaffirmed Japanese commitment to assist South Sudan on infrastructure development and to support social progress through security maintenance. “This assistance of 14,851,758 US dollars is our effort to contribute on security and social development of the new nation and our agencies are ready to construct more bridges, this is underway.” 
  
Present during the official inauguration were 4 RSS’ Ministers of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Hon. Nhial Deng Nhial, Information and Broadcasting, Dr. Barnabas Marial Benjamin, Roads and Bridges – Hon. Gier Chuang Aluong and the Central Equatoria State Minister of Physical Infrastructure Mr. John Ladu Tombe. 
 
While addressing the occasion at the Juba Grand Hotel after cutting the ribbon for the official launch of the six bridges constructed by the Japanese International Cooperation System and Tone Engineering Company, the Minister of Information and Broadcasting Dr. Marial applauded the grant offered by the Japanese government and its people to South Sudan. 
 
“Our cooperation went on smoothly since the government of South Sudan and Japan partnership began in 2005 and therefore we encourage such cooperation to continue nourishing,” Dr. Marial said.
  
The minister cited the South Sudan’s Aweil Rice scheme in Northern Bahr el Ghazal State 
which needs to be upgraded.

He urged South Sudanese to cooperate with the Japanese since their presence in South Sudan is to contribute to the country’s development and improvement of infrastructure.

Meanwhile the National Minister of Roads and Bridges, Gier Chuang Aluong appreciated the cooperation spirit by the Japanese government through giving social services and development to the people of South Sudan. 
  
Hon. Chuang commented that improving roads accessibility in South Sudan has remained a challenge to the government.
