Western Bahr el Ghazal State (WBGS) Governor Hon. Rizik Zackaria Hassan last Friday led a high profile of Singapore investors to Raga County as part their economic roadmap agreements.
The visit came following a series of meetings with these investors since last year 2011 which marked the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) paving way for the current igning road map.
Last year in February 2011, WBGS and Northern Bahr el Ghazal State (NBGS) Governors, Rizik Zackaria Hassan and his counterpart Paul Malong Awan as well as other diplomatic dignitaries from the Republic of South Sudan paid a visit to the United Arab Emirates, Spain, Madrid and Dubai whose companies aimed to invest in South Sudan.
On behalf of Government of the Republic of South Sudan, Rizik Zackaria Hassan signed several contracts with the Spain government including the minerals mining companies to the Country.
During a press conference held last Monday in the Governor’s office, Zackaria said that his State government economic team fostered various economic ties with the Singapore investor’s groups to go through the economic road map for their investments in the State and the other States in South Sudan.
“WBGS State has now declared to be an economic signatory with the Singapore investors as the last stage to enhance development initiatives in the State,” Hassan told the journalists.
The signed road map includes 4 major projects which range from erection of a palm tree oil factory which is scheduled to be established in WBGS and also to develop the aviation sector.
Hassan also mentioned that his economic team has also agreed on a way forward for setting up investments in the banking sector to allow the opening of big foodstuffs market for the whole Country.
South Sudan has steadily been fostering economic ties with other international communities to retain its infrastructure but would face challenges if corruption, nepotism and tribalism are not addressed.
