According to the Minster of Information and Communication Dr. Barnaba Marial Benjamin, two oil fields have been hit by a bomb in Pariang County, 74 kilometres inside the territory of South Sudan’s Unity State; breaking the treaty of non aggression signed by the two countries a fortnight ago in Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa.

The oil engineers who were in the area doing flashing, checking and testing equipments at the oil field at the time of the incidence have been evacuated.

“The flow line and the well-head of the two wells were destroyed resulting to oil spillage from the well,” Dr Marial said.

He continued that since the wells were being tested, the team was evacuated quickly leaving the two wells continuously spilling. “The technical team has decided to switch off power from the Unity power plant in order to contain the the spilling effects,” he explained.

Dr. Marial condemned what he called ‘hostile war-attitude’ of Khartoum for violating South Sudan’s airspace.

The Bombing happened in Panakwac Boma of Nyiel Payam in Pariang County 50 kilometres from Bentiu and 74 kilometres from the border between South Sudan and Sudan.

“It was the intension of Khartoum to course environmental damage in the area,” Marial said.

Dr Marial is threatening to launch a very strong protest to the Security Council but ruled out a return to what he called “senseless war”

“We will not be dragged into war but South Sudan government is capable of protecting its citizens and its territorial integrity including its resources,” he said.

“The Sudanese government has to learn that war attitude does not help to solve problems,” Dr. Marial reiterated. “If their intention is to destroy the oil fields and cause environmental damage, then the African Union and United Nations will have to be alerted but the Government of South Sudan will have to protect its territory,” he continued.

“The government of Republic of South Sudan and its people, including the international community knows it well that Khartoum does not respect agreements and so it should actually be the government of South Sudan to complain to the international community including the Security Council of the United Nations over Khartoum’s war-like attitude towards South Sudan,” Dr Marial emphasized.

Khartoum is currently battling his own people in Southern Blue Nile, South Kordofan and in Darfur.  Last week, Sudanese Revolutionary Forces (SRF), an alliance of rebel groups including the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement North (SPLM-N) and the Darfur rebels Justice and Equality Movement (JEM), the Sudan Liberation Movement of Abdel Wahid Nur (SLM-AW), and the Sudan Liberation Movement of Minni Arkoi Minnawi (SLM-MM), claimed to have taken control of Toroge town, an area in South Kordofan in which Khartoum lays blame on Juba for supporting rebels, the claim South Sudan terms as ‘baseless deception’.
