Thousands of youths chanted as they marched while displaying different messages during the procession mainly about;
1. Denouncing African Union (AU) and UN’s call for South Sudan’s withdrawal from Heglig,
2. Against Khartoum’s continued bombardment in South Sudan
3. Boosting the morale of SPLA in conflict zones
They petitioned the international community; the United Nations, AU and the EU to redress the demarcation disagreements in the contested oil rich regions where fighting between forces from the two countries is taking place.
In a statement presented to the UN Special Envoy to South Sudan, Hilde F. Johnson, the youths pointed out that, they are in support of the President’s decision that the international community should order all the forces of the two countries; Sudan and South Sudan to retreat.
“We support our President’s statement issued on 12th April that he will not withdraw his troops from Heglig unless elements in SAF stops attacking South Sudanese,†the petition reads.
Johnson received the letter and pledged to deliver it to the UN Secretary General but insisted that, the UNMISS mandate is not for South Sudan and Sudan political affairs but to build the independency of South Sudan.
“The mandate of this mission is not for the affairs of South Sudan and Sudan but it was established to support the independency, prosperity, peace and stability of South Sudan,†she said.
