The South Sudanese Minister for Finance and Economic Planning Kosti Manibe told journalists in Juba that the collections are likely to increase to eight or ten times as the government continues exploring opportunities for effective administration.

“The response on efforts to collect non -oil revenues has been quit well in fact impressive. It has increased four times over what we used to get in the past. Ultimately we will end up probably increasing it to almost eight to ten times per month”, Manibe said.

He said the Ministry is also working on activating collections from other areas that have remained dormant, adding there are other sectors that were under the jurisdiction of Khartoum government before the independence of South Sudan but which are now under the current South Sudanese government.

“The government is looking at raising substantial revenues from the issuance of licenses for telecommunications, taxes for crude oil, licensing in the field of oil exploitation and development among others in a bid to close the revenue gap”, he said.

The Minister at the same time denounced reports by the World Bank that the government may run out of money in a few weeks.

“We are not collapsing. There is room for more collections and grants to the economy”, said Manibe.
