Kapoeta South County Commissioner Martin Lorika Lojam has issued the directive following rising cases of insecurity and immorality in the town.
He said most motorcycles, commonly referred to as boda boda, are used at night to ferry criminals and underage girls who engage in commercial sex.
He told Radio Emmanuel 89 FM that the new move is an effort to combat the rising numbers of HIV/AIDS infections.
He at the same time raised concerns with the sexual exploitation of young girls, saying some bars were promoting the activity by operating late into the night.
“Our county‘s quarterly security reports have shown numerous incidents of sexual exploitation of underage girls in some lodges and bars in the town. We have also discovered that some boda boda cyclists transport the girls to prospective clients”, said Lojam.
He revealed that night patrols have been intensified and added that anyone contravening the directive will pay a fine of 100 South Sudanese Pounds or be jailed for not less than a month.
“Only boda bodas transporting patients to the hospital are exempted from the punishment”, he said.
