Mayak was speaking in Mayom during his welcoming ceremony as a new commissioner where he met with several spiritual leaders and said that the appointment will help him implement plans which he was thinking about before his appointment.

He urged the youth involved in cattle rustling sectional fights in and between states to be vigilant and to respect the laws of the new Republic of South Sudan and also to look for productive jobs instead of killing innocents people and take their belongings.

He also promised to unite the people to become one family instead of being divided by individuals for their personal interests.

Local community leaders and youth have warmly welcomed his appointment as it come after consultation with the county representatives, intellectuals and local leaders who presented their call to the governor for approval.

Mayak’s appointment as a commissioner is also welcomed by the rest of the counties in the state and believes that security in Mayom will improve in the near future.

Last month the former Mayom County Commissioner Brigadier Martin Mashod Deng and the Commissioner of Rubkona County Col. Eng. William Garjang Geng were touring the payams borders after civilians were killed by cattle rustlers.

Mayom County has in recent days experienced cattle raides with the rustlers hiding in bushes to attack the civilians.

During the swearing in ceremony, the Unity State Governor Lt. Gen. Taban Deng Gai warned that insecurity always occurred in Mayom County which borders Warrap and Panyijiar County of Lakes State and urged the two newly appointed commissioners to work towards improving security.

Major John Bol Mayak has been serving as the state Advisor on Security Affairs since the establishment of the autonomous government of Southern Sudan.
