The Chairperson of the South Sudan Workers Union Federation, Simon Deng Bol said the government should harmonize workers salaries since the workers are serving the same nation.
“We would want to see unification of the workers’ salaries between the States and the national government because all Workers have all the same rights,” he said.
The chairperson was speaking during the International Labour Day celebrations in Juba.
This is the first celebration for the Republic of South Sudan since independence on 9th July 2011.
The Chairperson said the government should not interfere in Trade Union Affairs. The celebration was under the theme: Workers are pillars of the development.
The Minister of Labour, Public Service and Human Resource Development, Kwong Danhier said workers will finally get their rights.
“These laws are on top of the agenda of the government. This country can’t condone child labour; rather work hard to get our children to school. The child labour situation in South Sudan is alarming. The days of a child being sent to the garden, cattle camps are over. We should send our children to school,” said Danhier.
Meanwhile the Undersecretary of Labour, Hellen Achiro Lotara assured the Workers Union that the laws will be their doctrine which they will use to follow their rights.
“This is a day workers can celebrate their achievements as the government commit itself to working with the workers,” Achiro said.
“The Draft Labour Bill will soon come out to guide the Workers. The government is looking for a decent working policy for all Workers,” she said.
The Deputy Governor of Central Equatoria State, Manasseh Lomole Waya said the unity of the workers is paramount for the development of the nation.
“Without peace love and unity we will not move this nation a head. The Sudan workers trade union of the past you know very well some workers were neglected,” Lomole said.
“We must prioritize our targets. I urge all citizens to toward hard for us to achieve our national targets,” he said.
