The South Sudan Red Cross Secretary General (SG), Arthur Agany Poole said that before the independence of South Sudan, they were having Southern Sudan Red Cross Society which was located in Juba, Malakal and Wau.
Arthur said that after the formation of the government of South Sudan they set up ten South Sudan Red Cross offices in all the ten states of South Sudan to offer humanitarian services to the people.
He said that they have delivered together with partners such as the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) , Danish Red Cross, Canadian Red Cross, Swedish Red Cross, Swiss Red Cross and the Norwegian Red Cross all present in South Sudan.
He said that they are ready to respond to any humanitarian situation in Jonglei state.
The Red Cross office was constructed with funds from the Danish Red Cross society.
Jonglei State Director of Red Cross, David Gai Deer has said that their strength and capability in doing this has been put forward through the establishment of three emergency action team units.
He said that the three were first established in Bor, Akobo and Pibor and another unit is under way in Fangak County.
Gai said that with constant support from their partners they managed an effective state network to restore family links between separated people as a consequence of armed conflict, other situation of violence, natural or manmade disasters.
He said on prevention of diseases and social welfare, they had been doing community health program for two years and managed to reach over 51,203 people in Jonglei state.
He said that program was instigated through the support from the Finish Red Cross Society (FRCS).
Deer said that the branch works on promotion and dissemination of international humanitarian law, the fundamental principles of the movement and the spirit of volunteerism reaching more than 2,500 people.
The Jonglei State Governor, Kuol Manyang Juuk has said he will support the society and register as a member of the South Sudan Red Cross Society so that he can pay 1,000 South Sudanese pounds monthly as his financial contribution.
He urges the community to contribute at least one South Sudanese pound each to support the Red Cross.
