The Cabinet reshuffle on the directions of President Jacob Zuma has opened a number of vacancies, which the office of the ANC Chief Whip claims to refill soon. President Zuma announced a Cabinet reshuffle at Union Buildings in Pretoria on Tuesday.
“The vacancies created in caucus and Parliament as a result of these new deployments would be filled in due course to ensure that the work of the ANC in this institution continues uninterrupted,” said spokesman Moloto Mothapo.
President Zuma sacked Communications Minister Dina Pule, Human Settlements Minister Tokyo Sexwale and Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs Minister Richard Baloyi.
“We are confident that the announced changes will strengthen the work of the executive and enhance service delivery… We extend our gratitude to the former ministers of human settlements, communications and co-operative governance and traditional affairs for the service they rendered in these positions,” he said.
The President announced that ANC MP Connie September would take care of Human Settlements from Tokyo Sexwale and Transport Minister Ben Martins would take over the role of Energy Minister Dipuo Peters. Former Co-operative Government Deputy Minister Yunis Carriem will be replacing Communications Minister Dina Pule while Deputy Land Reform Minister Lechesa Tsenoli would replace Baloyi as Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs Minister.
Despite been sacked, Ms Dina Pule will be investigated for allegations of nepotism and corruption. Pule will face investigation by parliament’s ethics committee and the public protector. It is believed that Pule’s alleged boyfriend, Phosane Mngqibisa illegally benefitted from sponsorship money allocated for the ICT Indaba in May 2012.
